Review

For this, Pro Con 3 of the second semester, when talking to Emily who I worked with in the 1^st semester we decided that it would be best to work individually. After a few problems and disagreements between me, Emily and Kristina we thought it would be best to do it on our own.

This brief took me a while to get into, as I’m not the best at working in AfterEffects. I knew that I wanted to link it into my FMP so this I did.

My FMP is about me, what I like, what I dislike, what scares me, what excites me etc. I am coming up with quotes that will be predominately typographical but have a little image to fit with the type. I want to focus mainly more on type because this is what I feel I’m the strongest at. One of the quotes that I’ve come up with is as follows. “Mancs call it a barm, a barmcake, a muffin…. I’m from Yorkshire…. It’s a teacake.”I came up with this quote because I feel the topic has been spoken about a vast amount of times between others and myself on my course over the last three years. As a few people on my course are from Manchester they have told me that they think it’s a barm, whilst others on my course who are from Yorkshire just like myself call it a teacake. Soooooo this is where the idea for my final video came from.

Video Idea

I designed a little teacake called ‘Tommy’. He would be going on a tour of England to see what others from different parts of the country called the teacake. Starting in West Yorkshire were he originates from his tour would take him to Greater Manchester and Lancashire, up to the North East, down around the South and back home to West Yorkshire where he would conclude his findings. I wanted to create a quirky character for my video and ‘Tommy’ was this. I personally like bold graphics, simple graphics and colourful graphics. I think Tommy fits in with these catergories well. He is a character who people will find interesting and humorous.

Getting to grips with AfterEffects

Personally I find AfterEffects very hard to work. After talking to a few on my course and them advising me on what to do it very slowly started to sink in. I think what I need with AfterEffects is more time on it. It does, for me, take along time to get used to. There are A LOT of buttons which do a variety of difficult tasks and there are other buttons which are simple and easy to work. I watched a few of the AfterEffects tutorials on YouTube when doing motion in the 2^nd year so I thought I would re-visit them and when watching them again it brought some of the techniques back.

Overall

Overall I really enjoyed this project once I’d gained an idea of what I wanted to achieve. I feel working by myself was better for me but I enjoyed working in a group in the 1^st semester. If I were to redo this project I wouldn’t mess about getting my idea sorted. Plus I’d hope to not lose my USB, redo all my storyboards and the find it after redoing my storyboards. J

Sketchbook work

I’ve treated this sketchbook like any other normal one for any other project, brainstorming, initial ideas and developing the ideas. In my sketchbook for Motion I’ve been also attempting some character designs. After finally coming up with my idea for my video I started to create character designs, from head shapes to hands to eyes, big eyes, small eyes, goooooooogley eyes, to mouths, big mouths, small mouths etc etc. Ive also been keeping a little last week diary which statred the Monday before hand in. Just documenting my time plans etc.

So far I have about 30 seconds worth of video, which is by far more than I originally thought I would have because AfterEffects takes foreverrrr! hoping to have 40 seconds by the time I go home today! Could be possible :)

I know its not ProCon3 but also done a little FMP blogging today.

I love simple graphics, childish looking graphics, bold graphics and colourful graphics. This little bright and bold character popped up when I was researching and made me laugh! My character for my motion piece is a little character who looks rather amusing.

Today so far has been successful, touch wood it doesn’t change! I have pretty much my boards done, all 2 of them ha! My sketchbook is progressing and I need to do some research for this tumblr page. By tonight I will have hoped to achieve more and more and more and more :)

Long day today, really long, productive, constructive, work filled but realllllllly long! Pretty much the same tomorrow, another day at uni and another night at home being productive!

Maybe having a gander at some of the AfterEffects tutorials tomorrow, not maybe, definatley ha!

Can’t find a video for it, but the brand new NSPCC advert is really good and gets the message across perfectly. I will post a link on here if I eventually find it :)
